Hello Retriever Reviews: Is It Worth It in 2026?

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • The independent record is small enough to read in one sitting. G2 holds six reviews at a 4.9 average, all five stars, the newest from 1 May 2026. Trustpilot carries the domain unclaimed, with no reviews. Capterra, GetApp, Software Advice, TrustRadius, Gartner Peer Insights and the BBB have no profile at all.
  • Retriever has grown well past the box it started with. Buybacks, disposal, repair coordination, OS provisioning, warehousing and redeployment are all marketed today, and most of that did not exist as a shipped product two years ago.
  • The rate card is public, which almost nobody in this category manages. A US laptop return costs $95, falling to $85 at 50 prepaid returns and $75 at 250. Self-serve shipping reaches US, Canadian and UK addresses only.
  • The most upvoted answer in sysadmin threads about this category is a box and a prepaid label, sent by the company itself.
  • Tequipy is the alternative to price beside it for globally distributed teams hiring in three countries, fifteen, or more: local sourcing in 180+ countries at recommended retail price, every stage from purchase to sellback, one order to start and no contract.

Hello Retriever reviews take about ten minutes to read in full, because there are six of them. All six sit on one G2 profile, all six are five stars, and the most recent went up on 1 May 2026.

That is the entire third-party record for a company whose enterprise page claims more than 8,000 business customers. So this guide does the reading: all six reviews including the parts reviewers marked as dislikes, the published price list, the services that quietly appeared on the site over two years, and the places where the vendor's own numbers disagree with each other.

Who Is Hello Retriever Best For?

Retriever was founded in 2021, lists 11 to 50 staff on LinkedIn, and gives its head office as remote with an address in Boca Raton, Florida. It is a small company doing one job carefully, and the buyers it suits are easy to describe.

  • US teams whose only problem is the laptop coming home. The workflow was designed for exactly that and nothing else gets in the way.
  • People and HR owners who want the chasing automated. The service emails the departing employee and sends up to three reminders, so nobody internally writes the awkward message.
  • Anyone who wants to try a service without opening an account. A single Starter return goes on a credit card, no minimum and no onboarding call.
  • Buyers who need a number before a sales conversation. Every rate here came off the vendor's own pricing and enterprise pages.

The limits are geographic, and the vendor publishes them rather than hiding them. Self-serve shipping covers US, Canadian and UK addresses, then the pricing page excludes PO boxes, US territories, Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and the Isle of Man, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Monitor returns stay inside the lower 48 US states.

Buyers reach that edge and say so in public. One sysadmin who had used Retriever for US leavers went looking for an international alternative when two employees in Belgium were offboarding. A current Enterprise customer scopes the praise precisely: "at least within the US their service has been quite flawless", per a January 2026 comment.

Tequipy: An Alternative

Tequipy homepage for global device lifecycle management

Tequipy came out of Revolut, where a co-founder ran IT while the company went from 100 people in 2 offices to 5,000 across 17. Through a weekly rotation of roughly 300 employees, not a single laptop went missing. The product solves a wider problem than retrieval:

  • The lifecycle starts long before anyone resigns. Buy, pre-configure, deliver, repair, retrieve, store, redeploy and sell back, all through one supplier.
  • Devices are bought in the employee's own country. 600+ authorized resellers cover 180+ countries, and delivery averages 3 business days.
  • Nothing gets signed to start. Rates sit on the Tequipy pricing page, and a first order can be one laptop or one collection.
Item Headline price
Platform $99 a month flat at any fleet size, free under 100 devices
Hardware Recommended retail price, delivery included
Offboarding collection $70 to $150 per device, by country
Storage and redeployment $12 a month, then $70 to $150 to send it out
Sellback 20% to 70% of original value, paid as cash

Collections run through the same laptop retrieval service wherever the employee lives, so the country list does not change between buying a device and getting it back.

Hello Retriever Key Features

The product is wider than its name suggests. Four capabilities carry it, and the middle two are recent additions to a service that began as retrieval alone.

Prepaid Return Kits and Automated Reminders

The company mails the departing employee a padded box, a prepaid label that needs no printer, packing materials and instructions, then handles the follow-up emails and passes tracking updates back to the client. Laptops up to 16 inches and monitors between 23 and 27 inches are supported, and a phone rides in the accessory tray for $9 more.

Reviewers rate this part highly. "It's very easy to set up shipping, communication with the recipient is automated, and delivery is fast", writes a mid-market software buyer in the most recent G2 review, dated 1 May 2026. The enterprise FAQ commits to shipping the kit within one business day, then two to three days of transit each way, with no expedited option.

Warehousing, Redeployment and Provisioning

Returned devices no longer have to come back to your office. Retriever now markets storage with condition checks, cleaning, repairs, OS provisioning and application installation, then redeployment to the next hire. Its own LinkedIn page said on 9 September 2026 that a stored laptop can reach a new starter by the following morning.

This is the sharpest example of the site arguing with itself. Warehousing has its own product page and a heavy marketing push, while the pricing-page FAQ still answers the storage question by calling it a roadmap item for the second quarter of 2024.

Buybacks, Disposal and Certified Data Destruction

A buyback programme runs on its own subdomain, and the disposal page offers an Earn Cash balance for every laptop sent in for destruction, "redeemable for cash or account credits". Certificates of Data Destruction sit in the customer portal.

Check the wipe standard before you quote it in a security review. The data destruction page today claims NIST 800-88 only. The Department of Defense standard, 5220.22-M, now appears on the company blog rather than on the page describing the service.

Enterprise Portal, API and Integrations

Enterprise accounts get a dashboard, unlimited users, single sign-on through Google, Okta SAML and Microsoft Azure, and prepaid credits that never expire. The integration list has grown from Workday, Okta, Jira, Oomnitza and Zapier to include ServiceNow, Freshservice and Teqtivity. The footer points at version 2 of the API docs while the enterprise FAQ still links version 1, so ask which your developer should build against.

Hello Retriever Pricing

Retriever publishes a full rate card, which deserves credit in a category where most vendors answer a pricing question with a demo booking. Flat rates cover shipping both ways, and there are no setup fees, no subscriptions and no contracts, the same commercial terms Tequipy offers.

Item Price
Starter laptop return, no account needed From $95
Starter monitor return From $195
Enterprise US laptop return, 10 prepaid $95
Enterprise US laptop return, 50 prepaid $85
Enterprise US laptop return, 250 prepaid $75
Canada laptop return $145 at 10, $135 at 50, $125 at 250
UK laptop return $250 at 10, $240 at 50. UK to UK, $125 and $120
Phone in the laptop box $9, free with each Enterprise laptop return
Minimum to open an Enterprise account 10 prepaid returns, $950
Storage, redeployment and disposal Not published, quoted on request

A buyer's own shortlist put Retriever at $95 per laptop with no free first return, next to a self-service Uline box at $19.40 to $29.20, in an April 2026 comparison thread. Read one term before you prepay: the pricing FAQ says the company is "unable to issue refunds" when an employee never returns the device.

Hello Retriever Positives

  • The price list is public: every figure above came off the vendor's pricing and enterprise pages, with no gated quote in the way.
  • The awkward chase is handled: "This is such an easy platform that takes a lot of awkward back and forth out of retrieving equipment from terminated employees", writes an education-sector reviewer in an October 2025 G2 review.
  • The portal gets consistent praise: one mid-market reviewer says "I love the enterprise portal", and values giving HR and management their own view of what is in transit.
  • Data handling is documented: SOC 2 Type 2 completed in January 2024, NIST 800-88 destruction, certificates held in the portal.

Hello Retriever Negatives

  • Three countries are self-serve and everything else is a form: the US, Canada and the UK go through the platform. Any other country is requested by hand on an international retrieval form, quote by quote.
  • The gap against doing it yourself is narrow: "perhaps it is a bit pricier than purchasing a box and ground ship label", writes an education-sector reviewer in a five-star G2 review. A sysadmin who has paid for it is blunter: "Retriever was pretty good but kind of expensive tbh", per an April 2026 comment. On that same thread the most upvoted reply names no vendor at all: "Our shipping department just FedExs out a box with a return label."
  • Published numbers contradict each other: the company blog says kits ship the same day while the enterprise FAQ says within one business day. The blog puts recovery at 97% or better and the LinkedIn page said 98% on 16 September 2026. Warehousing is sold as live and called a 2024 roadmap item on the same site.
  • The lifecycle only starts when somebody leaves: no device sourcing, no in-country purchasing, no ABM or MDM enrolment as a service. A 2024 reviewer was already asking for "additional APIs to leverage recovery from the UK" and for device recycling.

Customer Reviews

Here is the whole picture, stated plainly. G2 shows 4.9 out of 5 from six reviews as of September 2026, four marked Organic and two from a G2 invitation, the oldest October 2023 and the newest May 2026. Trustpilot has the domain registered but unclaimed with nothing posted against it, and no other directory carries a profile. The vendor's own site hosts 33 testimonials, last updated October 2025, which are marketing rather than independent evidence.

One positive. An operations manager describes the land-and-expand pattern in a G2 review from October 2025: "I discovered Retriever by chance when we urgently needed to recover a laptop from a remote employee. Now, two years later, we rely on them for all our machine deployment, retrieval, and refurbishing needs."

Two criticisms, and they take digging out. No one, two or three-star review of Retriever exists anywhere, so both complaints come from the dislike field of five-star entries.

A chief product officer, in a December 2025 G2 review, objects to the prepaid model: "you need to buy credits in order to use the service. While the cost isn't excessive, I find the process a bit bothersome." A software reviewer in the newest entry on the profile, from May 2026, wants more shipping choice: "I wish there were more additional options for shipping."

Six vendor-hosted case studies went up in August 2026, covering M Booth, Hims and Hers, Flourish Health, HiddenLayer, MERGE and SANDOW. Jeremy Morel, an IT analyst at M Booth, describes what he replaced: "Sometimes, months would pass before we got a device back." He puts his old DIY return rate at 90%. Treat all six as marketing.

Pro tip: price the laptop that never comes back, not the return. Retriever's pricing FAQ says it is "unable to issue refunds" when an employee keeps the device, so a failed recovery costs you the fee and the hardware. An IT manager using this class of service reports getting "roughly 90% of our assets that are remote this way", per a January 2026 ITManagers comment, against the 97% to 98% the vendor publishes.

So do the sums. Take last year's leaver count, apply a 90% recovery rate, and multiply the missing tenth by your standard laptop price plus the return fee. Then ask each shortlisted vendor two questions in writing: what happens to the fee when the box never arrives, and what recovery rate did accounts your size hit last quarter. A vendor who will not put a measured rate in writing is quoting a shipping price rather than a recovery outcome.

Hello Retriever Overall

Within its lane, Retriever is a good product and the reviews say so without qualification. The kits arrive, the reminders go out, the portal shows where everything is, and the price is on the website. For a US company with a straightforward offboarding problem, that is a clean purchase.

The thing to weigh is scope. Retrieval is the last stage of a device's life, and the stages before it, buying, configuring, delivering and repairing, still belong to somebody on your team.

How to Choose an IT Equipment Retrieval Platform

An afternoon spent on three questions will tell you more about a supplier here than any feature grid does.

Count the Reviews Before You Trust the Score

A 4.9 from six reviews and a 4.4 from ninety describe very different levels of confidence, and the star rating hides the difference. Open each profile, note the count, the date of the newest entry, and how many reviewers arrived through a vendor invitation.

Tequipy publishes its own numbers on those terms. Its G2 profile holds three reviews at 4.8 as of September 2026, which is why the case studies and the remote equipment management write-ups carry more weight here than the average does.

Ask Which Countries Are Self-Serve and Which Need a Form

Tequipy coverage map across 180+ countries with local partners

Country counts in marketing copy usually describe where a vendor can eventually get something done, not where the platform will do it without a human writing a quote. Put your own hiring list down one side of a page and ask for a written answer per country, per service. Tequipy runs collection, repair and purchase through partners in the country where the employee lives, which is why Booksy could test it in Latin America first and now reports 99% delivery before each new joiner's start date.

Add Up the Stages You Will Still Own

Tequipy dashboard tracking devices through the lifecycle

A retrieval contract solves the last stage. Write down the others and decide who owns each: sourcing, enrolment, delivery, repair, storage, redeployment and disposal. An allwhere customer made exactly this point on the thread that priced the return services: "none of the services you listed are going to be worth it just for retrievals. A shipping label and a box from FedEx or UPS will be easier", per an April 2026 sysadmin comment.

What made his own spend worth it, he adds, was running procurement, deployment, retrieval, storage, repairs and disposal through one supplier. RemoFirst runs that loop through Tequipy across 30 countries, with every device returned and close to $2,000 per employee protected.

Alternative to Hello Retriever: Tequipy

Tequipy country pricing view for locally sourced devices

Tequipy was built for companies whose hiring map keeps changing shape. No minimum headcount applies, devices cost whatever the local market charges for them, and every service works just as well on hardware somebody else sold you.

Tequipy Key Features

Local Sourcing in 180+ Countries

Orders land with an authorized reseller in whichever country the employee lives in, chosen from 600+ partners. Outside the EEA nothing crosses a border, so customs never reaches the invoice, and delivery averages 3 business days against a ceiling of 10 anywhere on the map. That is what global IT procurement looks like when the buying happens locally rather than centrally.

Enrolment Before the Laptop Ships

Before a machine leaves the reseller it is registered in Apple Business Manager or Windows Autopilot, free on hardware bought through Tequipy, and your own MDM picks it up on first boot. Tequipy is not an MDM and does not connect to Jamf or Intune directly. A new joiner opens a laptop that is already managed, which is the practical definition of zero-touch deployment.

Recovery, Storage, Redeployment and Sellback

When someone leaves, a courier collects the device, the condition is checked, a Blancco certified wipe runs, and the machine is then stored, sent to the next hire or bought back for cash. Redeploying a stored laptop costs roughly $180 to $240 all in, against $1,500 to $2,500 for a replacement. Devices past their useful life route into IT asset disposition with a certificate for each one.

Tequipy Pricing

Item Price
Platform $99 a month flat at any fleet size, free under 100 devices
HRIS integration $199 a month, optional
Hardware Recommended retail price or better, delivery included
Pre-configuration Free on devices bought through Tequipy
Offboarding collection $70 to $150 per device
Storage $12 a month per device
Redeployment $70 to $150 per device
Certified wiping Quoted per job
Sellback 20% to 70% of original value, paid as cash

Where Tequipy Shines

  • One process in every country: buying, repair and collection all run on local ground, so a leaver in Bogotá and a leaver in Manchester follow the same workflow. Deliveries have reached the Philippines, Colombia and wartime Ukraine.
  • Numbers that are published and dated: TapTap Send records 40+ hours a month returned to its team and around $6,500 a month saved after consolidating three purchasing processes.
  • A trial that costs one order: no renewal date sits in the calendar, so an evaluation can be a single collection in the country your current supplier handles worst.

Where Tequipy Falls Short

  • SOC 2 is in progress and not held today. Tequipy holds ISO 27001, is GDPR compliant, hosts in Europe and shares penetration test reports on request. If a security questionnaire treats SOC 2 as mandatory, ask the team where that certification currently stands before you shortlist.
  • There is no instant checkout for a single return. Opening an account takes up to 24 hours and Terms of Service have to be signed first, so a company that wants one box shipped this afternoon on a credit card will find the first step slower.

What Tequipy Customers Say

Tequipy's G2 profile shows 4.8 out of 5 from three reviews as of September 2026, a small sample and worth saying out loud. The named evidence is stronger. Lisa Kiseleva at Gigs, whose team hires across 20 countries, says: "They're hands-down one of the most responsive and solution-oriented teams I've worked with."

Lera Lykholiet at RemoFirst describes what changed after two years: "It's taken a huge burden off our internal teams." Buyers describe the starting point to us in almost identical words, usually some version of laptops sitting with ex-employees in three countries and no idea how to get them back.

Who Tequipy Is Best For

  • Companies hiring across several countries: whether that is 3 or 15, the terms and the workflow do not change by market.
  • Teams making their first hire beyond the home country: a domestic process breaks on the day somebody starts work where you hold no entity, no reseller account and nobody local who can hand over a laptop.
  • Buyers who need the stages before offboarding: procurement, enrolment and repair come on the same terms as collection, which is to say no contract at all.

CONCLUSION

The Final Word on Hello Retriever Reviews

Read honestly, Hello Retriever reviews describe a well-run point solution with a very thin public record. Six five-star reviews are six people's genuine experience, and they are not a pattern you can plan a global offboarding process around. If your people sit in the US, Canada or the UK and getting the laptop back is the whole job, the rate card is fair and the reviewers have no complaint worth the name.

If your hiring map is wider, or the stages before offboarding still land on your IT team, price both approaches side by side. Bring your hiring list to the Tequipy team, read our published rates, and put one genuine collection through each supplier. Two invoices will tell you more than a star rating with six votes behind it.

FAQ

What Does Hello Retriever Do?

Hello Retriever recovers company laptops from remote and departing employees. It ships a prepaid padded box, emails the employee with up to three reminders, tracks the return, and can then store, redeploy, wipe, resell or dispose of the device.

Is Hello Retriever Good For Remote Teams?

Yes, if the team is in North America or the UK. Self-serve shipping covers US, Canadian and UK addresses only, monitor returns are limited to the lower 48 US states, and every other country goes through a manual international retrieval form.

Does Hello Retriever Offer IT Asset Management Beyond Retrieval?

Partly. Warehousing, redeployment, repairs, OS provisioning, buybacks and certified disposal are all marketed now. It does not buy or source new hardware, and it does not enrol devices into Apple Business Manager or your MDM as a service.

Does Hello Retriever Integrate With HR or IT Systems?

Yes. The published integration list covers Workday, Okta, Jira, Oomnitza, ServiceNow, Freshservice, Teqtivity and Zapier, with single sign-on through Google, Okta SAML and Microsoft Azure, plus a REST API for anything else.

Which Service Recovers Devices Where Hello Retriever Cannot Self-Serve?

Tequipy does. Collection runs through local partners in 180+ countries at $70 to $150 per device, and the same account buys, configures and delivers the replacement in the employee's own country.
